Google Search Plus Your World –Opens up a Whole New World!

Whether you're impressed or not, one thing is certain - anyone serious about search engine optimization and social media optimization, should utilize Google's new SPYW search function.

Google recently announced the launch of a new search function called “Search Plus Your World” (SPYW).  When enabled the feature will automatically place search results that have been ranked highly by your Google+ network friends at the top of the results page. The premise of the SPYW function is that people would want to see results that their friends like, rather than random content.

After conducting a SPYW-enabled search you'll be shown a list of results that have been commented on/rated by your friends within the Google network. Since your friends' ratings of websites are also often accompanied by their comments about the page, displayed next to their screen name, it is easy to determine whether you'd also be interested in the same page based on your opinion of each of your friends' knowledge on the subject.  For example, if you know which one of your friends is most experienced in shopping for electronics online, you might be more inclined to check out the page they recommend for cheap gifts. The new social search feature also gives you insight to your friend's interests and experiences. In essence, SPYW puts the concept of word-of-mouth in hyperdrive, giving you a massive wall of social input to accompany your search results.

Aside from improving leisurely online activities, the SPYW Google+ search function is expected to have a profound effect on businesses that actively participate. By adding customer's to your Google+ network you open the door to recommend products/services/information you would like them to be exposed to. Networking with your client base in your business Google+ account also gives you the opportunity to learn about their interests, and subsequently develop effective new marketing material.

Interesting it will be to see the affect on the SERPS and how it affects online social media behavior.
